The cost of fuel is a large factor in the cost of freight transport and every trucking company has a fuel surcharge (FSC) that is a percentage applied to the base freight rate. All FSC charges are entered separately on freight billing to allow you to easily see freight charges as well as FSC costs.

Fuel surcharges are is based on the U.S. Average Diesel Fuel Index as is published by the Energy Information Administration of the U.S. Department of Energy. Diesel prices are published every Monday.
